HISTORY OF 2217 LINDELL AVE (WILSON AVE)

This history of 2217 Lindell Ave, formerly Wilson Ave. is fairly storied.  It was orginally purchased by John Yarborough and company as a large land parcel that was part of Waverly Place a large Plantation on the property. It was subdivided into smaller lots and became the first suburban neighborhood in Nashville located about 2 miles from Broadway and 8th.

The property then changed hands 14 times, including for a Buick, before finally being purchased for diamonds and $350.00 in 1919 by JJ Dillard and his wife Lucile Dillard.  They built the original structure that stands today.  They lived in the house until April 1929.  The Dillards sold the house to the Luckeys.  Right as the Great Depression was going on full steam, Mr. Luckey deeded 35 feet of the 100 foot lot to his brother, whom built his house 6 feet away.  You'll see that in the pictures as the yellow house right next door.

The longest single owner of the house was Elise English from 1944 - 1975.  What a change she saw over those year.  She would have watched the neighborhood get divided by I-65 construction along with all of her neighbors houses across the street being torn down.  She would have seen all of the early 70's in-building that happened on Lindell and White Ave.  She also got to deal with her street name changing from Wilson to Lindell Ave as part of the name consolidation that occurred in the 1940s.

The house went through a major un-permitted remodel in the late 1990's.  Which gave it the footprint of what we purchased in November 2020.
